Bruce Hoffman

Bruce Hoffman is a professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Senior Fellow for Counterterrorism and Homeland Security at the Council on Foreign Relations. Hoffman was appointed a commissioner on the 9/11 Review Commission and has been Scholar-in-Residence for Counterterrorism at the CIA as well as an adviser on counterterrorism to the Coalition Provisional Authority and on counterinsurgency to the Multi-National Forces–Iraq Headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq. He is a recipient of the United States Intelligence Community Seal Medallion, the highest level of commendation given to a nongovernment employee. Hoffman is the author or co-author of the award-winning books, Anonymous Soldiers: The Struggle for Israel, 1917–1947 (Knopf, 2015) and God, Guns, and Sedition: Far-Right Terrorism in America (Columbia, 2024). A fourth edition of his renowned work, Inside Terrorism (Columbia), is forthcoming.
